I got to know the crossing guards at my elementary school very well (one was the gym teacher, the other a music teacher; they get $15/day for it). People drive through our school zone like maniacs.

The local police department did the same in my hometown . The cut-out officer was stolen within a couple of weeks.

I was going to say... a younger me would have masterminded stealing one of those. Today, I wouldn’t touch it because tracking and cameras, even if I was still 17-year-old me.

I used a storage place that had a cutout security guard up in a third-floor window.

I guess this is probably cheap enough that even if the impact is small, it may be worthwhile. Certainly vastly cheaper than placing an officer, or having one of those radar speedometers.

People will get used to it, but then they’ll replace it with a real officer. Speeding in a school zone should cost you your license.
